Commission part4

This is the part I was looking forward to the most in the commission, the vegetarian protest poster! I had a look on pinterest first to see if this would help generate some ideas. Most of them were quite shocking ones showing the reality of the meat industry with dead cows everywhere, which isn't really what I wanted to go for... This is the only one which I liked and is similar to what the client asked (spot illustration with a small piece of text), this was my main inspiration for my work.

I wanted to do pigs because it would link to doing the pig women that I did previously, I also use pink and blue a lot in my work so a pig also seemed more appropriate for my colour scheme. I wanted the pig to look like it had been trapped in chains or like it was a literally a pig in a blanket. I wasn't too sure what it was going to look like but wanted to get the message across that it's a prisoner of what it produces for the carnivores. I feel very hypocritical saying this, but I also wanted to put across the idea that most meat eaters seem to block out the fact that bacon comes from a pig so I wanted to the two to be together in the image.

Final image!! This is what I ended up with, a pig wrapped up in bacon, made to look like the bacon is trapping the pig like chains. I am pretty happy with this poster, I think it speaks the message the client wanted to put across using simplistic imagery so you can understand what's going on in the poster straight away. The 'Carnivores, be conscious' is another pointer for people to realise where meat actually comes from, that it comes from animals and not just the supermarket.

Most importantly, the client was very happy with the final results and happy to pay me. Actually getting paid to paint and create work I enjoy doing is such a great feeling, making me remember how much I want to do this for a living.
